Sermon Recap
  • Pastor Suzanne talked about John the Baptist and his call to the people to repent or “turn around” from the way they had been living as a response to the Kingdom of God coming.
  • Pastor Suzanne talked about the ways that we often think about the act of repentance as intended to induce shame, but that is not the biblical understanding of repentance.
  • She encouraged us to think about repentance as following God’s directions to “change course” to keep us heading in the direction we are trying to go. She used the image a skilled boat captain making small adjustments to keep the boat on course. This type of repentance happens all throughout our lifetime and journey with God.

Reflection Questions:

  • What does the word “repentance” stir in your imagination or emotions?
  • Have you ever experienced a time where either God or another person corrected you in love and the result was positive?
  • Is there anything right now that you think God might want to “course correct” you on?
  • Spend a few moments in prayer asking God to reveal any changes in direction, behavior, or internal posture that he might want you to take.
