Sermon Recap:

  • Suzanne talked about how diverse we are as a church. We have different original languages and cultures, different music preferences, different political opinions, and different theological understandings. She told us that the book of Romans was written to address a similarly diverse audience - to teach them how to live together to bring glory to God.
  • Rather than an abstract book about theology, Romans is a book written to a particular church with a lot of difference, trying to teach them why and how to love each other well as a response to God’s love.
  • In Romans 15: 5-9, Paul says that we do this by “having the same mind as Christ” and by accepting each other.
  • We will parse out more of what that means as we study Romans over the summer!

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • When you think about the book of Romans, what comes to mind?
  • What are some of the differences between you and other Christians that are hardest for you to hold?
  • How have you practiced holding differences in your closest relationships? What makes that work or not work?
Below is a two-part video series from The Bible Project that will help give you a sense of the context and the outline of the whole book of Romans, and the booklet that Pastor Sara made to help walk us through this book through the summer.
