Sermon Recap:

  • Pastor Sara talked about the context of the book of Romans. In particular, it was a church founded by Jewish Christians who were then exiled from Rome. When they came back to the church, Gentile Christians were running the church. A lot of what Paul has to say to the Roman church addresses that context.
  • Pastor Sara also gave a short recap of Romans 1-11 (see picture below).
  • Finally, she told us that because of God’s love demonstrated for us on the cross, we are therefore called to love one another like Christ loved us - to give ourselves up as a living sacrifice. Particularly, Jews and Gentiles were called to work to cultivate peace together to be a witness to the world around them.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • How does this context change how you think about the book of Romans?
  • As you read back over the passage (linked above) from Romans 12, which sentence catches your attention? What do you think God might be trying to tell you as you consider that verse?
  • What does it look like to do everything to “cultivate peace” with someone in your life this week?
